So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I've always been entrepreneurial and creative which is why I enjoy running my own small business. The act of making something out of nothing has always intrigued me and brought me fulfillment. My father and uncles are entrepreneurs so I’ve watched them and decided that I would emulate the actions which brought them success. I grew up in the small town of Rome GA just outside of Atlanta, in a single-parent household where I was the oldest of four children. I learned really early in life that I had to work hard in order to get what I desired. I started working at a fast-food chicken joint as soon as I was old enough to get a permit.
I started my first business right after completing my first tour of duty in the US Army. Bar In A Boxx is the second of my three small businesses and it’s quite successful. However, I have to admit that I didn’t plan on starting a Mobile Bartending, DJ and Event Planning business. It kind of happened… I guess you can say that I was prepared when the opportunity presented itself. I attended a Bartending School, where I was trained by some amazing instructors. That’s where I realized that I really enjoyed the social aspect of working behind the bar and making tasty cocktails.
I started Bar In A Boxx after working part-time for a local bar in the Phoenix Metro area for nearly two years as a bartender/server. While at the bar, I learned the ropes about the service industry, the good the bad and the ugly. I was also working a full time job in a corporate office for eight hours. Then I would drive to the bar and clock in to work there for another 6 to 8 hours several days a week. Needless to say- I wasn’t thrilled with the hours, schedule, chores, politics, etc. that came along with working at a bar or restaurant. My disdain for that normality was the catalyst for doing my own thing. I was compelled to build a business from scratch with minimal capital to start it up and get out of that routine.
April of 2018, I was booked for my first private event, where I met my second client. Less than a month later, I was working my second gig where I met my third client and so forth. I started to promote the business and satisfied customers helped me with those efforts via word of mouth and stellar reviews. It quickly got to a point where I needed help in order to work all the gigs that were being lined up. Then I decided to expand my offerings, hence the DJ and Event Planning Service. I’d like to believe that my business savvy, customer service, and passion for enhancing my client’s events is what has led to the success thus far. Seeing my clients happy is what drives me. We’re just getting started! Cheers!
Has it been a smooth road?
I went to Bartending School to learn how to make all the classic cocktails using exact proportions. I had to learn the laws so that I could serve customers safely and responsibly. I worked a bar as a bartender/server but I had to drive 45 minutes one way to get to work from my place in Scottsdale. I would also have to work there for up to eight hours after working my full time 8-hour shift at a corporate office. I was working doubles several days a week. Those two years of my life was very challenging!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Bar In A Boxx – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Bar In A Boxx is a Mobile Bartending, DJ and Event Planning company. We can help our clients plan their event from beginning to end and we can help our clients with a custom drink menu. We have outstanding customer service skills, which is what I am most prideful of. That is the most important quality of any customer-facing business in my opinion.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the topography of Phoenix and this amazing state! I also love that there are so many events here. There is so much to do! I love trying out the breweries in the valley! The party scene here is great and there is a large market for what I do. I am happy to call Scottsdale and the Phoenix Metro Area my home.
